Terms of service

1. Who we are and these terms

GlanceOff is provided by DCBYTES S.R.L, Blaj, Coriolan Suciu 1, Romania, registration number RO48659422 ("we", "us"). Contact: contact@dcbytes.ro.

These terms apply to the GlanceOff app and the GlanceOff account service. By using them you accept these terms. Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal data.

2. What GlanceOff does, and its limits

GlanceOff checks what is on your screen with a detection model on your phone and covers explicit content. It can also filter websites through a filtering DNS provider you choose, and it adds friction (a typed passphrase, a waiting period, or another person's approval) before protection can be loosened.

• No filter is perfect. GlanceOff may miss some content and may sometimes cover content that is fine. Please tell us about mistakes so we can improve it.
• Android sets limits. Some phones, system updates, other apps, or a determined user with technical access (for example a rooted phone) can weaken or bypass protection. The app explains the main limits during setup.
• GlanceOff is a tool, not therapy. It is not a medical, psychological or addiction treatment service, and it does not replace professional help.

3. Safeguards you choose to be bound by

When you activate protection you pick how loosening it is guarded. You agree that, by design:

• changes that loosen protection need your accountability step first: a long passphrase typed by hand, a waiting period of up to 48 hours, both, or approval by the person you chose;
• an approval only lasts 10 minutes, a denied request cannot be repeated for an hour, and cancelling a request does not keep the time already waited;
• waiting periods follow our server's clock, and changing your phone's clock or reinstalling the app does not shorten them;
• deleting your account takes effect 30 days after you ask, and signing in during that time cancels the deletion;
• switching the app off entirely is possible, but it goes through the same accountability step.

We will not remove these safeguards for you on request, because doing so would defeat the protection you asked for. If you are ever stuck, for example because your partner cannot be reached, contact us and we will explain your options, such as the automatic 24 hour waiting period that applies if your partner steps down.

4. Your account

• Give accurate details and keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
• One account per person. Accounts are for people aged 16 or over; for someone younger, a parent or guardian sets up and holds the account.
• Tell us straight away at contact@dcbytes.ro if you think someone else has used your account.

5. Accountability partners

• Only invite someone who agrees to it. They will receive emails from us about your requests. The emails name the setting only, never your screen or browsing.
• Your partner's decisions are theirs. We do not check who they are or how they decide, and we are not responsible for their choices.
• Your partner can step down at any time. Your protection then switches to a 24 hour waiting period until you choose someone else.
• If you invite an email address you control yourself, the partner feature cannot protect you. We can't detect that.

6. Paid features and payments

• Core protection (explicit content detection, DNS filtering, and the accountability safeguards) is free. Some features need GlanceOff Pro, as shown in the app.
• Payments are handled by Google Play under Google Play's terms. Prices are shown in the app before you pay, including taxes where applicable.
• Monthly subscription: renews automatically every month until you cancel it in Google Play. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for. A free trial, when offered, converts to a paid subscription at its end unless you cancel before then. Google Play decides who is eligible for a trial.
• Lifetime: a one-time payment for Pro for as long as the GlanceOff service is offered. A lower launch price is available during the first 14 days after you create your account.
• If a subscription ends or a payment fails, you lose the Pro features, never the core protection.
• Refunds follow Google Play's refund policy. This does not limit any rights you have by law as a consumer. If you are a consumer in the EU, you agree that the digital service starts right after purchase, and you acknowledge that the 14 day right of withdrawal ends once it has started, as the law allows.

7. Acceptable use

You must not:

• use GlanceOff to monitor or restrict another person without their knowledge, or on a phone you are not entitled to manage;
• attack, overload, probe or reverse engineer the service to get around its protections for someone else, or to get at other users' data;
• use the partner feature to send unwanted emails to people;
• break the law with it.

We may suspend accounts that do these things. Where we reasonably can, we will tell you first.

8. Availability and changes

We work to keep the service available but can't promise it will never be interrupted. The core protection keeps working on your phone while the service is unreachable. We may improve or change features; if a change significantly reduces what you paid for, we will tell you in advance, and you may have a right to a refund under consumer law. If we ever shut GlanceOff down, we will give at least 30 days' notice, and stop billing subscriptions.

9. Ending your use

You can stop using GlanceOff and delete your account at any time (subject to the 30 day delay in section 3). Cancel any subscription in Google Play; deleting the account does not cancel it automatically.

10. Liability

GlanceOff is provided with care but, as explained in section 2, it cannot guarantee that no explicit content will ever appear, or that protection can never be bypassed. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for content GlanceOff did not catch, for content it covered by mistake, or for indirect losses. Our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or any other liability, or any consumer right, that the law does not allow us to limit.

11. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by Romanian law. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim in the courts there. Please contact us first. Most problems are solved quickly by email.

12. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app or by email at least 30 days before the change takes effect. If you don't agree, you can stop using the service and delete your account.
